Gm manual steering box grease

Sep 29, 2010  Manual steering box lubricant? I have an original 1st gen steering box and was curious about what type of grease or oil goes into the boxes. I i worked in a full service gas station in the 60's& the steering box was included in a lube job. we used the grease right out of the grease gun. same stuff we greased the rest of the grease joints with. Nov 04, 2006 GM has a particular grease they recommend for the Vega box, but checking at a couple of Chevy dealers I found they don't carry it.

new vega manual steering box, gm 140 cross steering gear box, street rod, hot rod, rat rod, 1923 1948 ford, tbuckets, model a by Southwest Speed 169. 99 169 99 May 04, 2012  GM used to have a manual steering gear" grease"which came in a tube. It was for Corvettes.

I suspect it was a heavier oil sort of product, with an Oct 03, 2011 GM recommended Steering Gear Lubricant and I think the part number (discontinued) was (GM was a thicker grease).

I do not think that this is either product? I have never seen this until searching today. GREASE is to be pumped into the steering box until the grease comes out through the bolt hole.

The bolt is to then be reinstalled and the steering box topped off with 80W90 gear oil. From experience if you rebuild the gear box and fill it with oil, even with new
